Zineryt is a combination of two old and reliable remedies for acne: the antibiotic erythromycin and the nutrient zinc, in a convenient lotion form. We’re examining if Zineryt for acne works, how well it works and how to pair Zineryt with another acne remedy to make it even more effective.
Zineryt is not as fast acting as some other combination treatments for acne, but it’s inexpensive, has few side effects, and usually gets rid of about two-thirds of blemishes in 3 months or less, even if you don’t do anything else. But there are very simple things you can do to get rid of the other one-third of your acne blemishes with little effort and very little money while Zineryt is doing its work.

Part of the anti-acne action of Zineryt is provided by the antibiotic erythromycin. In 1949, a Filipino scientist named Abelardo Aguilar sent soil samples to Eli Lilly. In these soil samples there was a strain of bacteria called Saccharopolyspora erythraea. These bacteria released a chemical to defend them from other bacteria so they could multiply in the soil. Later known as erythromycin, this substance turned out to have antibacterial effects on many other kinds of bacteria that can cause infections.
Erythromycin works by interfering with the action of RNA in making proteins in certain bacteria. It basically causes acne bacteria (and some other kinds of microorganisms) to go into a state of suspended animation because they cannot make new proteins. If erythromycin is taken by mouth, it can increase the activity of a hormone called motilin, which speeds up the passage of food through the digestive tract, causing diarrhea or vomiting. And if erythromycin is taken orally for a period of years, it can cause a variety of rare but serious side effects that don’t occur if it is used as a skin ointment.
For acne, erythromycin is best used as the first antibiotic used to treat acne. Because erythromycin has been on the market since the early 1960s, many strains of acne bacteria are resistant to it. But erythromycin is still a very inexpensive and very predictable treatment for most cases of acne. It just is not enough by itself. That is why Zineryt combines erythromycin with zinc.
Zinc is an important nutrient for the skin, but it works by regulating the immune system, not by stimulating the immune system.
Acne bacteria do not cause significant inflammation of the skin. The redness, swelling, itching, and peeling caused by pimples are actually caused by the nerves in the skin and immune system. When nerves in the skin sense “stress,” they send out a hormone that triggers the release of histamine from specialized “mast” cells in the skin. The histamine destroys tissues that might be harboring a toxin or infectious agent.
The immune system generates other chemicals that also break down skin cells in the lining of pores. The immune system’s attack is “aimed” at acne bacteria, but they release chemotactins that redirect the immune system’s inflammatory chemicals on skin cells rather than on themselves. This not only protects the bacteria, but gives them a way to escape to the surface of the skin as it breaks open.
Stimulating the immune system does not help anyone recover from acne. Regulating the immune system, on the other hand, can slow down inflammation enough that pores have a chance to expel acne bacteria, or antibiotics have a chance to kill bacteria before inflammation injures the skin. The surest way to regulate your immune system is with zinc gluconate you take as a supplement, but zinc in lotions like Zineryt can do double duty as an immune system regulator and a sunscreen.
What’s special about the combination of erythromycin and zinc? Erythromycin sometimes can cause redness, irritation, and drying of the skin. Zinc reduces these side effects. Erythromycin can kill acne bacteria without zinc, and zinc can clear up acne inflammation without erythromycin, but the combination of the two ingredients works even better.
If you live in the United States, Canada, or Europe, you will need a prescription to get Zineryt, but your health insurance will pay for it, or, if you live in the USA, you may be able to get the product for just $4 a month even without insurance. It’s a very inexpensive treatment, but you should not use it for more than 90 days before you start using another treatment.
Why should you limit your use of Zineryt to 90 days? As your doctor will probably tell you, the erythromycin component of Zineryt has been in use for over 50 years. Some strains of acne bacteria will be able to resist erythromycin treatment. If you keep using erythromycin indefinitely, you will kill all the competitors of the resistant bacteria and they may cause an even worse infection on your face. This can also happen if you stop taking Zineryt abruptly and don’t use another product, like benzoyl peroxide.
So what’s the best way to use Zineryt?
It’s also important to keep in mind that killing acne bacteria is just part of getting rid of acne. Antibiotics and zinc don’t do anything for non-inflammatory acne blemishes such as whiteheads and blackheads. To keep these kinds of blemishes under control, you need a complete skin care system.

Hi I started using Zineryt yesterday and today imy whole face brokeout with pimples, I've never had so many pimples before. Is this this normal??? Please help I'm in panic mode...
Hi, At first, I had the same problem, and went back to the doctors. They said it takes a while to kick in. It will work after a month!
10th week*,you will have extremely bad skin in the area of acne too. If you're a girl avoid wearing makeup I haven't since I've had it! That was hard for me as I have a whole draw full of it! All expensive makeup too!
I used Zineryt and it was the acne treatment that saved me from a hell of a lot of heart ache and an ugly face. (My face still looks pretty bad though :) ) It cleared my skin within five days, however constant application is needed to keep it away. I have had an acne free face for over a year and I cannot even remember clearly having such bad acne as I did. Zineryt = MIRICALE WORKER!!!
Are u still using Zineyt or did you gone to benzoil-peroxid as said in this article (if u did stop zineryt how long were you using it) but if you are still using Zineryt how is that you didnt become imune to it?Have you been using benzoil -peroxid with Zineryt from the begging?
I have used Zineryt for 2 months now, it's only did half of the work. I'm having break outs. I also still have some blackheads and white heads. What should I do pls.
everyone here is complaining, i have been using this for 2 weeks and have had great results, washing your face with warm water then cold water to close the porse, apply, leave for half a day and repeat, if you're a girl yes make-up will mess the process up, you are adding to the problem by clogging up your pores and making spots apear, and as for the black heads, this isnt and miricle treatment to get rid of all spots, you yourself have to get rid of black heads, there are plenty of strips out there to get rid of them. i would rate this highly as it worked for me.
I started using Zineryt one week ago , it really cleared my skin from acnes .. I got smooth skin but still got pink coloration in the areas of pimples .. Should i continue using it or what ?? HELP PLZZZ ..
Lemon juice is meant to help scarring i used it a few times when I still had a lot of spots and the redness did go eventually x
Can u plz tell me if we should only ise this for face? And also do we have to wash after using. Or just let it dry?
It is normal for it to worsen at the beginning. My skin got worse for about a week but then drastically improved. This is the only treatment that has properly worked for me after trying for years. Definitely recommend!
Where I can purchase Zineryt?
You have to have a prescription for it. It 's not over the counter.
I use zineryt but I was wondering, once I have applied it onto my acne and it has dried, can I put moisturiser on top as I have extremely dry skin?
ive just started using zineryt and its nearly my 2nd week and i do see a difference at all, yes i do wear makeup but its rarely maybe once or twice a week and i need to know am i allowed to wear moisturiser on top and my serum and my toner? i feel okay with just zineryt but i use rose water for my acne scars and i dont know if i putting it on with zineryt makes a difference pls help thank you
I've been using zineryt for a month now and my acne is worse than its ever been and I've had it for five years Many people have said it drys out your skin but i didn't have that side effect
Yes I went to my gp and he recommended that you do to stop your skin from drying out .
This stuff was a miracle for me! I was so insecure about my face so I went to the doctors and asked if there's anything that could help with getting rid of them I had the choice of tablets or zineryt, I chose zineryt and it's worked for me ever since. I have a repeat prescription and on the plus side I'm not immune to it! X
Used zynerit for two periods of time. Two years ago used it for about 6 months and my face got clear. Stoped using it and after two weeks I had the worst breakout which lasted for a couple of months. My skin became super sensitive, red and inflamed. Now, after using it for the second time, my skin didn't clear up that much, probably because the bacteria got resistent to the treatment. I've used it for two months with no other acne treatments, just simple over-the-counter breakout washes, scrubs, etc. which didn't change much my acne. The idea is to use it with a natural toner. The apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil helped a lot as my face got really clear and just the eventual periods were flaring up my acne. I advise you not to buy over-the-counter toners or anything thats not home-made, they don't work. Bought this expensive vegan organic toner (Odilique) for acne and one: it wont last you long, prob only a couple of days, two: it doesn't work at all (had to repeat myself). Anyways, use the home-made toner : one part vinegar, two parts water and one drop of tea tree oil. It works miracles.
It doesn't have any effect on my skin.
I've been using zineryt since the beginning of this month, around 25 days. My acne has only worsened since then. I've only been using this alongside gentle face wash, toner and moisturiser (due to sensitive skin) but this has not worked for me. I am going to the doctors tomorrow and I'm hoping my blood results make it clear to why I have acne. Never experienced acne until the beginning of march at the age of 22!
I'm using zineryt with the benzoyl peroxide and I am on the 3 month injection my face cleared up I only have 2 pimples left which I'm treating so my guess is you have to use it in combination with the benzoyl and hormone treatment for flawless skin....
Week one of using zineryt and for someone who has had very good skin until recently....the sudden breakout of may pimples and a rough face is scaring me ...never been so uncomfortable in my skin ... planning to see the Dermatologist this week a d get advise. I use moisturizer to sooth the dry feeling it leaves me with I pray it would because this is not looking good.
I’m on my 4th day now and my acne is just getting worse. Should I stop using it?
Im on my 1week now using zineryt ..my acne get dry and black..is this the effect or should i stop using it?
