Review: The Avarelle Acne Patch is Ideal for Emergency Acne Treatment

By Megan Griffith

Acne patches have become a popular option for last-minute acne treatment because they both treat your skin and protect it from irritants at the same time. One of the best acne patches on the market right now is the Avarelle Acne Cover Patch, and its updated sibling, the Avarelle Spot Patch. These products are invisible, come in a variety of sizes, and contain ingredients that actually treat acne. Plus, Avarelle includes soothing ingredients that explain how their products avoid irritation and over-drying, the biggest pitfall of the acne patch treatment method. Based on the ingredients, reviews, and price, we believe the Avarelle Acne Patches are an excellent option for treating isolated breakouts.

Avarelle Acne Cover Patch
The Avarelle Acne Cover Patch and Spot Patch are great products to use when your acne breaks out at the last minute and you need a quick fix.

Summary:

  • Avarelle acne patch products won’t cure your acne entirely, but they can help in a pinch.
  • Avarelle uses tea tree oil, calendula oil, and rosehip oil to make their patches both effective and gentle.
  • Avarelle makes a variety of acne patches, so you can choose the right product for your specific skin care needs.
  • Online reviews reveal that these acne patches are effective for all kinds of acne, and even work to reduce acne scarring.
  • The cost of Avarelle acne patch products is relatively affordable, unless you’re using them every single day.
  • If you have all-over acne, Avarelle’s sheet mask products may be a better option for treating all of your acne at once.

Acne Patch: Is It Really a Miracle Acne Quick-Fix?

To be clear, nothing can magically get rid of acne entirely, and we generally warn our readers to be suspicious of anything labeled as an “acne miracle” or “quick-fix.” Still, we all have those breakouts that pop up at the worst possible time, so we all need a fast-acting emergency treatment every now and again. There are solutions that can help reduce acne quickly, even if they can’t “cure” it altogether, and one of those is the Avarelle Acne Cover Patch and Spot Patch.

Acne patches in general can be pretty hit or miss because how well they work really depends on their ingredients. We like Avarelle’s patches specifically because they use very few ingredients, and all of them are ideal for treating last-minute breakouts without making the situation worse. Some acne patches simply dry out the skin, which can shrink pimples but also tends to irritate the skin, leading to redness and possibly a bigger outbreak just a few hours later. Other patches fail for the opposite reason: they don’t use strong enough ingredients and the patch ends up doing almost nothing at all. Avarelle has found a balance by using both acne-fighting ingredients and skin-soothing ingredients.

Why Do Avarelle Acne Patches Work?

Essential oil bottle
The essential oils in Avarelle products make them an ideal choice for acne treatment.

The first place to look when determining how well a product actually works is the ingredient list. We were pleasantly surprised at how short the ingredient lists are for the Avarelle Acne Cover Patch and Spot Patch. They contain only the ingredients needed to help reduce your acne: hydrocolloid (the stuff that forms the patch itself), tea tree oil, calendula oil, and rosehip oil (only in the Spot Patch).

Countless studies have found that tea tree oil, an essential oil derived from the Australian tea tree, helps reduce acne for many reasons: it kills acne-causing bacteria, it reduces inflammation, and it reduces excess oil production. Together, these properties make tea tree oil a very powerful acne-fighting ingredient, but it can be a bit harsh. To avoid any irritation or excessive drying, Avarelle has included calendula oil, an oil extracted from marigolds, and rosehip oil, an oil derived from the seeds of wild roses. Both of these oils are rich in vitamins and have a soothing effect on the skin. The original Avarelle Acne Cover Patch does not include rosehip oil, but it has been added to the updated Avarelle Acne Spot Patch, probably because these patches are meant to be worn for longer amounts of time and may dry out the skin without the added rosehip oil.

What’s the Difference Between the Acne Cover Patch and the Spot Patch?

Avarelle makes all kinds of skin care products, including several types of acne patches that differ in small but potentially significant ways. The Acne Cover Patch is their original acne patch product. Previously, it was a fair skin tone, but when Avarelle came out with the Spot Patch, which was invisible, people wanted the original product but invisible as well. So Avarelle listened and made the change.

Now, the most significant difference between the Acne Cover Patch and the Spot Patch is the ingredients used. The Spot Patch includes tea tree oil and calendula oil, like the original Acne Cover Patch, but it also incorporates rosehip oil, which provides more vitamins and further soothes the skin. This added ingredient makes the Spot Patch a safer option for those with sensitive skin that might react poorly without an added soothing ingredient, but it also means the patch can be worn longer by people with all skin types without causing irritation.

The original Acne Cover Patch was meant to be applied and worn only until the patch started getting cloudy, then it was meant to be removed. The new Spot Patch, however, comes in two forms, AM and PM, and is meant to be worn all day or all night. The AM Spot Patch is extra thin and blends in very well on the face, while the PM Spot Patch is thicker and more likely to stay in place even if the wearer tends to toss and turn in their sleep.

What Do Reviews Have to Say About the Avarelle Acne Patch?

Men and women giving thumbs up
The vast majority of reviews about the Avarelle Acne Patch are overwhelmingly positive, increasing our confidence that they truly do work.

Thousands of reviews on Amazon and Influenster reveal that people really love the Avarelle Acne Cover Patch. Because the AM and PM Spot Patches are newer, they each only have a handful of reviews, but the majority seem positive as well. Reviews revealed that the patches really are nearly invisible and can even be hidden underneath makeup, which is good to hear. Some products claim to be “invisible” but in reality are painfully obvious once they’re on your face, and the only way to know for sure is to buy the product—or read hundreds of helpful reviews.

The most valuable information we gained from reading these reviews is that these acne patches treat more than just pimples. Many users reported that they effectively reduced blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and even acne scars. Several reviewers also revealed an added benefit of the acne patches: they prevent picking. If you tend to mess with your acne, many people reported that the Avarelle Acne Patches helped them pick at their acne less.

Acne Patches and Masks at an Affordable Price

One pack of 40 Avarelle Acne Cover Patches in a variety of sizes costs about $9, and can be even cheaper if you get the subscription on Amazon, and the Spot Patches are available for $9 as well, although you only get 24 in those packs. Compared to other popular acne patches, this is a relatively low price, and if you only use one per day, they can last anywhere between three and five weeks. If you find yourself using several each day, you may want to try one of Avarelle’s other popular products: sheet masks.

Although sheet masks can’t be worn throughout the day or while you sleep, they provide all-over treatment instead of spot treatment, which is better for widespread acne. They come in three varieties: tea tree extract, rosehip extract, and cica extract. Tea tree is best for pimples, rosehip is best for dry skin, and cica is best for blackheads and whiteheads. Each type is available in a pack of 12 for approximately $10.
